The Lure Of The Unexpected

You’ve always loved the beauty of the unexpected. Adding chips to a sandwich. Stirring your cocktail with a crisp piece of bacon. Discovering a Camel Wrestling Festival in what you thought would be a quiet Turkish town. This is the stuff of life. Likewise (sort of), the Morgan Electric Plus E ($TBA) does a beautiful job of combining many classic car elements with forward-thinking technology, namely the electric car. Debuted at the Geneva Auto Show, this 5-speed electric sports car was designed in part by Zytek and Radshape. The engine and chassis were taken from the Plus 8 car, which uses BMW design, combined with Zytek’s 70KW (94 BHP) electric engine. Radshape’s stepped up to the plate to contribute the perfect body chassis that’s both aerodynamic, sturdy, and of a controlled weight. Plug it in, charge it up, and expect the unexpected.

Say there’s a run on gold and you’ve got to safely transport all your gold bars across town. It’s just a concept for now but maybe if you invested some of that gold, they’d build you a prototype.

This Model Is Bespoken

While you need another sports car about as much as the Kardashian sisters need another reality show, you probably won’t be able to pass this one up. The 2012 Faralli & Mazzanti Evantra ($TBA) features a sleek design and impressive specs that are made to order. Since the Italian automakers are only producing five models, they’re letting you choose between a naturally aspirated, or twin-turbo 3.5 liter flat six engine for either 400 or 600 hp, respectively. You can also select either a composite or all aluminum body. The latter is handcrafted, which allows for custom personalization by yours truly. Both can go from 0 to 62 mph in just 3.7 seconds, which is about as long as we can stand to watch any Kardashian.

High Society Hookah

Reclining on your Chesterfield 1780 William Blake Leather Couch, you can’t bring yourself to smoke a run-of-the-mill pipe. No, your bong needs to rise to the fancy occasion that befits the rest of your furniture and accessories. Thank God the maker of your favorite luxury sports car has the same idea. The Porsche Design Shisha combined aluminum, stainless steel, glass and TecFlex to create a sleek classy design that won’t look out of place in your lounge. The 22” tall pipe is now available exclusively at the Porsche Design shop in the Millionaires Gallery at Harrods Knightsbridge store in London. How smashingly appropriate.

The New Switcheroo

When you’re behind the wheel of a fabulous car, driving is always about more than getting from Point A (Brussels) to Point B (Belarus–why not?). But when you throw in a choice of HOW you get from A to B–on electric or regular–that’s a whole ‘nother story. The Imperia GP ($164,500) is a rare Power Hybrid that lets you make that switcheroo, mid-journey, if you like, between an electric and a fuel-powered engine. Built in Liege, Belgium, the Imperia GP comes from a rich heritage of performance automobiles, with a strong focus on the future, namely in hybrid vehicles. Its Neo-Retro design is a mind-bender, but speaks volumes about what’s under the hood, namely a 1.6 liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine that puts out 210 hp and 250 Nm of torque, not to mention a 136 hp electric motor. With barely any CO2 emissions, and the ability to plug into any 220V outlet, by dang it, the Belgians might well be known for more than their waffles once this thing catches on.
