The Hero Who Took A Day Off.
We all need a day off every once in a while. Sadly, most people’s days off merely involve lazing on the beach or binge watching “Game of Thrones.” Movie Hero: Ferris Bueller puts us all to shame. In perhaps the best John Hughes movie ever made, Ferris is the main character in “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” which follows a high school kid (played by Matthew Broderick) as he embarks on the greatest adventure ever while playing hooky from school one day.
First, he brilliantly fakes his own illness to his parents and teachers using a combination of licking his palms, a Casio keyboard programmed to make coughing noises and a dummy rigged in bed that rivals the one that fooled the guards at Alcatraz. And then the fun really begins. Ferris scoops up his girlfriend and best friend (along with his father’s ’61 Ferrari California Spyder), and off they go, catching a ball at a Cubs game, crashing a parade float in downtown Chicago and leading the crowd in ‘Twist and Shout’, and chowing down a fancy meal while impersonating ‘The Sausage King of Chicago.’ So next time you decide to call in “sick,” don’t just watch Jon Snow fight an army of white walkers with your hand down your pants. Get out there and do as Ferris would do. After all, “Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around for a while, you could miss it.”
