The Eyes Have It

Sunshine on your shoulders makes you happy (especially the sunshine in Zanzibar—there’s just something extra awesome about the rays on that tiny African island). But sunshine in your eyes, not so bueno. Protect your peepers with these stylish new options from the 2012 Salt Optics Collection One ($425). The “Goodwin” takes the classic Aviator to a new level, with raven black frames and polarized CR39 Grey Gradient Lenses. For your days out of the sun, the “Briggs” echo a classic era of Americana, with real rivet hinges and authentic vintage smokey tortoise acetate. Spifferoo.

More Screens!

Between laptops, desktops, flat screens, silver screens, iPhones, iPads, Nooks, Kindles and cameras, it’s safe to say we, as a society, enjoy screens. We’re guessing that was the insight behind designer Nick Trumbo’s Samsung Flip ($TBA) concept phone. Using OLED screen technology, Trumbo’s vision consists of a phone that can fold up or flip out, with screens on both the inside and the outside. The outer screen’s main purpose is for quick-glance notifications, while the inner screen can be used to view larger content, OR to even break down into two separate screens. If this many screens still won’t suffice, we suggest seeking some sort of psychological help.

The Lure Of The Unexpected

You’ve always loved the beauty of the unexpected. Adding chips to a sandwich. Stirring your cocktail with a crisp piece of bacon. Discovering a Camel Wrestling Festival in what you thought would be a quiet Turkish town. This is the stuff of life. Likewise (sort of), the Morgan Electric Plus E ($TBA) does a beautiful job of combining many classic car elements with forward-thinking technology, namely the electric car. Debuted at the Geneva Auto Show, this 5-speed electric sports car was designed in part by Zytek and Radshape. The engine and chassis were taken from the Plus 8 car, which uses BMW design, combined with Zytek’s 70KW (94 BHP) electric engine. Radshape’s stepped up to the plate to contribute the perfect body chassis that’s both aerodynamic, sturdy, and of a controlled weight. Plug it in, charge it up, and expect the unexpected.

Branch Out

In your Eagle scout days, you were always taught to hang your food in the trees overnight lest a bear ravage your tent trying to get his grubby paws on your leftover weenies. But since you’ve gotten more gourmet in your old age, you prefer sleeping with your Truffle Oil and Baconnaise close at hand, thank you very much. Guard your goodies up in the trees with the Tensile Tent ($upon request), an off-the-ground shelter that combines a hammock and traditional tent. The Tensile Tent comes in three sizes, the largest of which can sleep up to 8 people, so you and your camping buddies will never worry about finding flat ground or dealing with rocks in your back again. The squirrels, though…you may have a problem with the squirrels…we hear they have a special affinity for Baconnaise.
