Ever since that four-day rave you dominated out in Reykjavik (they’re still calling you DJ N’icicle), you’ve had a deep-seeded passion to create your very own electronic music. Well, the Nordic Gods have finally answered your prayers (ok, ok, it was just a few blokes out of Bristol, UK). Introducing the AlphaSphere ($1,600). This incredible electronic musical instrument is comprised of 48 touch pads, which are completely programmable. That means that you can assign any sound or sample you want to any pad on the sphere, through either AlphaLive (their proprietary software), or any existing audio production software you have, like Digital Audio Workstation. Then, just tap the pad and out comes the sound. Each pad is pressure sensitive, so you can mold and manipulate the sound even further, affecting pitch-bend, volume, oscillations, even filters for a sounds that’s truly unique. Ognvekjandi! (That’s “awesome” in Icelandic).
