The Hero Behind The Camera
James Dean. Richard Pryor. Andrew Dice Clay. For years we’ve been bringing you hero after hero that’s graced the silver screen, but today, we bring you a hero from behind the camera that makes all that movie magic come to life. Introducing Hero: Sir Ridley Scott.
Sir Ridley Scott is the English film director who’s brought you hit after hit, like “Gladiator” and “American Gangster”. Scott got his start working for BBC in the early ‘60s as a set designer. Flash forward a few years to the ‘70s when Scott transitioned out of TV and into film, where he directed his first big hit in 1979 with the classic “Alien.”
After that, Scott began turning out films at a furious pace. In 1982 Scott released the cult favorite “Blade Runner” and followed that up with more hits like “Legend,” “Thelma & Louise” and “Black Hawk Down.” He now owns and operates Ridley Scott Associates, a commercial production company which his sons both produce films under.
Scott hasn’t just stuck to films though. You may remember a certain Mac commercial that aired during the 1984 (hint, hint) Super Bowl or more recently the commercial he directed with Lady Gaga for her perfume. Oh, and there was this major international blockbuster he just released called “The Martian.”
Since his start in film, Scott’s been nominated for three Academy Awards for Directing and has even been knighted for his “services to the British film industry.” With all that under his belt, Scott shows no signs of stopping anytime soon. He’s currently directing Fox’s “Wraiths Of The Broken Land.” Can’t wait to see what magic he creates this time aroud.
